Pelvic Health Physical Therapy
WHAT IS PELVIC HEALTH PHYSICAL THERAPY:
Pelvic health physical therapy is a specialized branch of physical therapy that assesses and treats the muscles, nerves, and tissues of the pelvic floor, which support the bladder, bowel, and reproductive organs. It addresses issues like incontinence, pelvic pain, and sexual dysfunction caused by weak or tight pelvic muscles through techniques such as manual therapy, exercises, and biofeedback.
Common Conditions Treated:
- Bladder and Bowel Dysfunction:Urinary urgency, frequency, incontinence, fecal incontinence, and constipation
- Pelvic Pain:Chronic pelvic pain, painful intercourse (dyspareunia), endometriosis, and tailbone pain.
- Prolapse:Pelvic organ prolapse.
- Pre/Post-Natal Care:Pregnancy-related pain, abdominal muscle separation (diastasis recti), and postpartum recovery.
- Surgical Rehabilitation:Care following prostate cancer surgery, gynecological procedures, or gender-affirming surgery.
WHAT PATIENTS CAN EXPECT:
- An initial assessment often involves a detailed history and a specialized internal or external examination to determine if the muscles are too tight (high-tone) or too weak (low-tone). The evaluation will be discussed AT-LENGTH with patient before proceeding.
- Treatment plans are highly individualized to the patient's specific dysfunction
