Ergonomic Worksite Evaluations

Objectives of an Ergonomic Assessment

• Identify current repetitive motion injuries occurring in the workplace
• Analyze the frequency at which these injuries are occurring
• Identify potential contributing factors in the physical environment
• Provide education to employee/s and management regarding ergonomic principles
• Recommend workplace and behavior adaptations that will reduce the chance of further injury.

• Our evaluator, a licensed physical therapist with additional training as a certified ergonomic assessment specialist, obtains pertinent information regarding the nature of an injury (or injuries) being reported, the corresponding job description(s), and any recent history of Workers` Compensation claims.

• A pre-ergonomic evaluation interview or questionnaire is completed by the employee(s) currently experiencing symptoms. The evaluator then conducts an interview with relevant managerial staff to review expectations.

• A full ergonomic assessment is completed by taking measurements of the physical workstation utilizing photography/video equipment and observation of job task performance by employees. The assessment phase generally takes one half hour for a single employee working at a single workstation. Additional workstations or employees will require additional time.

• Findings are reviewed with pertinent individuals(s), manager(s), and/or administrator(s), as needed.

• A detailed report is completed and submitted to the appropriate person(s). This may include (but is not limited to) the employee(s), management, the Workers` Compensation case manager, and the physician.

• Additional training is provided as indicated. This may include a back school or other educational seminars.
