Back School
Everyday we are faced with situations that may be damaging to our backs. According to the National Institute of Health, back pain is the second most common neurological ailment in the United States, secondary only to headaches. Americans spend at least $50 billion each year on low back pain, the most common cause of job-related disability and a leading contributor to missed work. Recurring back pain resulting from improper body mechanics or other non-traumatic causes is often preventable.
It is crucial to be aware of how to protect your back, whether to prevent injury or further dysfunction from a pre-existing condition.
Back School curriculum includes:
- Spinal anatomy
- Common spinal injuries
- Proper body mechanics to help protect your back during daily activities such as sitting, standing, lifting, and doing household chores such as laundry, washing dishes, vacuuming and gardening.
- Basic ergonomic set-ups for computer and desk related activities
- Ideal sleep positions
Back School is interactive and participants are encouraged to ask questions relating to their own individual work, home, and recreational activities. Handouts are provided for review at home.
